Old Penang RS Restaurant, Newport Mall

Me and my college friends had a dinner get together because one of them was leaving for Singapore. The venue was supposed to be in Makati but every time we had our get together, we always meet in Makati so for a change. we decided to meet at Newport Mall. We can't decide where to eat because of the many restaurants available. We ended up at Old Penang RS Restaurant, which serves Singaporean and Malaysian  dishes.

The ambiance of the place was great maybe because of the use of lights and the presence of huge ceiling fans that could add up to the hawker style of eating.

All of the dishes here are mostly unfamiliar to some because of how the name of the food was called but it's good to try other viands of food which are not usually served in other restaurants. Food descriptions were available.

Soup is served before anything else. It's great that the soup was warm enough and the broth was not that strong and not that bland.

Char Koay Teow (Php 220). It is a stir-fried flat rice noodles with light and dark soy sauce, prawns, beans sprouts, bits of pork and chives. I hate to tell this but for comparison, Char Koay Teow of Noodle Works was better and tastier compared to this one.

Old Penang Ice Kacang Special with Ice Cream (Php 120). It is shave iced with red bean, cream sweet corn & fruits. In short, their version of halo-halo with ice cream.

I was supposed to order the Hainanese Chicken or the Nasi Lemak but I might crave for more rice so I ordered the noodles instead. Maybe next time I would try the rice meals and the Teh Tarik. c",)

i ate nasi lemak and teh tarik there and it was ok, except nasi lemak was expensive at Php 245 for something that i could get cheaper at any chicken restaurant.

Pros - it has most of the famous malay dishes like laksa, nasi lemak, chicken rice

Cons - it's expensive, even compared to hawker centers in Singapore
