Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi Airport

The Suvarnabhumi Airport is the new international airport in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. Previously, the only aiport was the Don Muang Airport, which is now catering for Thailand's domestic flights.

The new aiport was so spacious and its industialized look and minimalist design was spectacular.

ARRIVAL:

Upon arriving, listen carefully to what baggage claim number you are supposed go to get your luggages because you might get lost.

Upon stepping out of the tunnel connecting the plane from the airport, a long hall way will welcome you with numerous walkalators left and right. But don't worry if you got lost, concierge services are available throughout the airport.

Currency exchange booths are also available. However, it is not advisable to do an exchange from the airport because of a low return value of your exchanged currency. There are better exchange centres within the city. If you need Thai Baht for your transportation or food temporarily, you might like to exchange a small amount of your money instead of exchanging all.

If you missed the luggage announcement to what belt you would pick up your luggages, you might want to check this huge electronic board for your flight number and belt number.

A 24-hour time or military time is observed in Thailand and if you are coming from the Philippines, Thailand is one hour behind.

Passport control is the immigration counterpart in Thailand. Better prepare your travel documents while walking going here. You might be ask for some details of your travel and accomodation. Your photo will also be taken through their webcam.

Remember your belt number since it starts from belt 1 to 30 (estimate). All the belts have orchids on their signage.

Huge artworks featuring their local artists are placed in their divider walls.

This is the arrival lobby, where your tour guide would welcome you if you booked for a travel agency or just pass here and find your way out by airport metred taxis, the MRT or the free airport bus going to the public bus terminal.

A mall and a hotel is attached to the airport so if you have more time to kill, you might want to explore this place. Just beware of some people in suites, they will call you and offer you city tours or other tours in Thailand for a cheap price but remember anything cheap than usual is has a hidden catch. You might want to do a tour on your own so that you could save time and have your own freedom to where you want to go.

Here are the airport metred taxis, which has a 50 BHT additional from their metered fare.

DEPARTURE:

This is the departure area of the Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Be sure to be at the airport 3 hours before your flight schedule because Suvarnabhumi Airport is so spacious that you will need enough time for finding your airline counter, passport control, x-ray scan and window shopping from the stores going to your departure gate.

Find your flight counter which ranges from A to Z. If you don't have your return ticket yet, you could also buy from the numerous airline companies that are found on the side. Expect a long queue!

This is one of the featured temple like structure in Thailand.

I don't know if this is one of the temple guards or prominent figures in Buddhist temples. Two statues like this are found before the Passport Control.

After the long queue from the flight counters, expect another queue at the Passport Control, you could choose which line is shorter. Again, your picture will be taken at the counter.

An x-ray scan is the last step of the queue, where shoes, bags, wallets, cellphones and everything you got in your body will be removed except your clothes. All liquids and other prohibited items for hand-carry will be left here including water. Maybe you are wondering why water is included, it is because you will pass by restaurants inside which sells water for a higher price than outside. Nice business move huh?!

After the x-ray scan, get your things and this statue will greet you goodbye. From here, branded goods will welcome you and restaurants like Burger King, McDonald's and Dairy Queen could accommodate you while waiting for your flight schedule.

And finally, you will reach the end of the long tempting stores and end up on your departure gates. Sawadee Kap! c",)
